Yavapai County's Justice Courts
Yavapai County has five justice courts, from Prescott and the Verde Valley out to small courts at Mayer, Seligman and the Bagdad-Yarnell precinct. It is a good illustration of Arizona keeping a courthouse within reach of communities that are a long way from anywhere.
The distances between these courts are considerable, and several serve areas much larger than their town. The court covering a rural property may be an hour's drive from the property itself, and is not necessarily the one in the nearest large town. Bagdad-Yarnell is one court rather than two, sitting in both places: the Yarnell office keeps ordinary hours and the Bagdad office opens mornings and early afternoons, closing over lunch. Check which one you need before driving to either.
A landlord and tenant case here is normally heard in the justice court for the precinct the property sits in. Above the justice courts' civil jurisdiction limit it belongs in the superior court instead, and below that limit the two share it. The Yavapai County Superior Court is at 120 South Cortez Street in Prescott, and the Prescott justice court is inside the same building, in Room 103. The county's other courts are a long way from both.
Bagdad-Yarnell Justice Court - Bagdad

Bagdad-Yarnell Justice Court - Yarnell

Going in: Children may come into the courtroom if they are well behaved. - call and schedule in advance during courthouse hours. - call in advance to ensure that the judge is available, but walk-in hours are Mondays at 1:00pm and Tuesdays at 9:00am. - if you need a copy of a civil or small claims hearing, the court needs the request in writing and the subsequent fee; you will receive a digital copy.

Prescott Justice Court

Getting there: Park in the city lot on Granite Street behind Whiskey Row and on Marina Street, South of Union street. Parking at this location is charged; the court or the garage operator can confirm the current rate.

Going in: If children are brought to the courthouse, be aware that if they are disturbing court proceedings, they will be asked to wait in the lobby as long as they have a person who can safely keep an eye on them or if the Constable or an Officer is available to make sure they are attended to safely.

Court details were checked in August 2026. Arizona has been consolidating rural justice courts -- Santa Cruz in 2019, and Graham and La Paz in 2023 -- so listings elsewhere can name courts that have closed. If anything here matters to a filing, confirm it with the court before you rely on it.

Which court hears an eviction in Yavapai County?
