La Paz County's Justice Court
La Paz County has one justice court. Until recently it had three -- separate courts at Parker, Quartzsite and Salome -- and the county's supervisors voted to merge them into a single court, effective at the start of 2023.
This is the county where out-of-date information does the most damage. Quartzsite and Salome Justice Courts are still listed as operating on several commercial court directories, and both closed years ago. There are still town magistrate courts at Quartzsite and Parker, but those are city courts and are not the former justice courts under another name. The upside of the merger is that there is now nothing to work out. One court covers the whole county, so a property at Quartzsite, Salome, Bouse or Parker all point to the same courthouse.
A landlord and tenant case here is normally heard in the justice court for the precinct the property sits in. Above the justice courts' civil jurisdiction limit it belongs in the superior court instead, and below that limit the two share it. The La Paz County Superior Court is not where the justice court is. It sits at 1316 Kofa Avenue in Parker, while the justice court is on West Arizona Avenue about a mile away. Two courts, two addresses, one town.
